Licence agreement (EULA)
This is a translation for convenience. Truffle’s provider is based in Germany, and the German version is the binding one. Where the two differ, the German text applies.
Version of 15 September 2026. Applies to all licences purchased from that day on. You can read, save and print this text before buying; it does not change for a licence once purchased.
The short version. You download Truffle free of charge from the Mac App Store and buy the full version once as an in-app purchase; from then on you may use it indefinitely on every Mac signed in with your Apple Account. Truffle writes only what you confirm, backs up the original values first and logs every change. We are liable as the law provides; for data loss, to the extent an ordinary backup would have prevented it. Everything is spelled out below.
1. Subject and parties
This licence agreement governs the use of the program Truffle for macOS (“Truffle”). The licensor is Marian Moritz Hildebrand, Scheinerstr. 29, 81679 Munich, Germany, mail@truffle-app.com (“we”). The licensee is you — as a consumer or as a business.
The purchase is made through the Mac App Store. The seller and your contracting party for the purchase is Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland; Apple’s Media Services Terms apply, and Apple provides the invoice and the withdrawal instructions. The app is free; the full version is a one-time in-app purchase. This licence agreement governs what you may do with Truffle and what we owe you.
This agreement applies as soon as you download Truffle from the Mac App Store and use it — for the demo version within the limits of section 3, for the full version with the purchase.
2. Licence
With the purchase you receive a perpetual, non-exclusive right to use Truffle for private and professional purposes. There is no subscription, no recurring cost and no user account with us.
You may use the full version on every Mac that is signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account; on a further Mac, “Restore purchases” is all it takes.
The purchase entitlement is tied to your Apple Account. You may not rent, lend or sublicense Truffle.
Transfer. Whether and how an App Store purchase can be transferred to another person is governed by Apple’s terms; Family Sharing is not enabled for Truffle.
You may not modify or reverse-engineer Truffle or circumvent the purchase check, except where §§ 69d and 69e of the German Copyright Act or section 10 (LGPL) expressly permit otherwise.
3. Demo version
Truffle can be used without a purchase: it analyses up to 100 tracks and writes changes to up to 20 tracks. These limits apply per track and are not reset. Demo and full version are the same program; the in-app purchase lifts the limits. The app makes no contact with any server of ours.
4. Activation through the App Store
Whether the full version has been bought is checked on your Mac with Apple’s StoreKit against your Apple Account — as every Mac App Store app does. We run no server for this; there is no device limit, no session limit and no regular online confirmation by us. The last known entitlement also applies without an internet connection.
Restore purchases. On a further Mac or after a reinstall, choose “Restore purchases” in Truffle; Apple confirms the purchase for your Apple Account.
Integrity. Truffle checks that it is unchanged from what came from the App Store. If that check fails, Truffle tells you so in the program; your full version stays unlocked. Whether an app from the App Store starts unmodified is for macOS to decide, not for us. A withdrawal of the licence happens only under section 11.
5. What Truffle does — agreed characteristics
Truffle reads the metadata of your music from Apple Music/iTunes, from folders of your choosing or from a DJ program’s collection (rekordbox, Serato, Traktor), proposes corrections and additions, and writes them only once you confirm the individual fields. Before the first change to a track it backs up that track’s original tags; every change is logged and can be reverted individually.
One exception: deletion. If Truffle deletes a track on your instruction, that is logged but cannot be reverted. Music.app has no trash for this; the track is gone from the library, and with the iCloud music library switched on, from every device attached to it. Nothing is deleted on its own, only after you have expressly confirmed it.
For its proposals Truffle queries third-party catalogues and services (Apple/iTunes Search, MusicBrainz, Cover Art Archive, Deezer, Beatport, a web lookup, and Apple’s audio recognition). These services are not part of Truffle; their availability, response time and response quality are not part of the agreed characteristics. If a service fails or changes its interface, Truffle continues with the others; there is no entitlement to any particular source. Whether a proposal fits your track is your decision — Truffle shows its evidence but does not decide for you.
Truffle never writes into a DJ program’s database — not rekordbox’s, not Serato’s, not Traktor’s; cues, beatgrids, playlists and ratings there remain untouched. Tempo and key as tags in audio files are written only if you expressly confirm the respective field.
System requirements: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple Silicon; an Apple Account for the Mac App Store and an internet connection for the purchase and the catalogue queries.
Example figures and screen renderings on the website show an invented example library; your results depend on your own collection.
6. Updates
We provide security updates until at least December 2031. This covers the fixing of security vulnerabilities; new features are not owed but are provided at our discretion.
Updates appear in the Mac App Store; macOS installs them automatically or after your confirmation — depending on how you have set app updates in System Settings. What an update fixes is stated in its release notes in the Store.
Independently of the period above, the support period stated on the Security page applies: five years from the day a version was last offered for download.
If you do not install an update announced in this way within 30 days, we are not liable for a defect that results solely from the absence of that update — unless the installation failed because of faulty instructions from us (§ 327f (2) BGB).
Changes to Truffle beyond keeping it free of defects
We may change Truffle beyond what is needed to keep it in conformity with the contract where there is a valid reason to do so — for example because Apple discontinues an interface or a processor architecture, because a third-party source disappears, or because a security hole cannot be closed any other way. Such changes cost you nothing (§ 327r (1) BGB).
If a change impairs your access to Truffle, or its usability, more than only insignificantly, we will tell you beforehand: at truffle-app.com/lizenz.en, in the release notes and — where the change affects you directly — in the program itself, in good time for you to prepare. You may then terminate the contract free of charge within 30 days of receiving that information or of the change taking effect, whichever is later. This does not apply where the impairment is insignificant, or where we keep the unchanged version available to you at no extra cost (§ 327r (3) BGB).
What this means for the system requirements. Truffle currently requires a Mac with Apple Silicon (section 5). Should we raise the requirements later — to a newer version of macOS, for instance — the above applies: we say so beforehand, and the last version built for your system stays runnable and licensed. What it will no longer receive is new updates.
7. Your part
Truffle writes into your library and into your audio files. So that this happens without loss, we ask three things of you:
- Keep your own regular backup of your library and your audio files — Truffle backs up tags, not whole files.
- While Truffle is writing, close other programs that write to the same files — in particular rekordbox, Serato and Traktor.
- Before working with a DJ program’s collection, back up its database (rekordbox
master.db, Serato’s_Serato_folder, Traktorcollection.nml), as Truffle recommends before the first write.
This cooperation is the basis of the liability provision in section 9.
8. Warranty
Towards consumers, defects in Truffle are governed by the statutory provisions on digital products (§§ 327 et seq. BGB) without restriction. Please report a defect to the address given in the legal notice and describe what happens and what you expected; the remedy is usually an updated version.
Towards businesses, claims for defects become time-barred twelve months after provision; the remedy is, at our option, a fix or an updated version. Liability under section 9 remains unaffected.
9. Liability
- We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act, for fraudulent concealment of a defect, and to the extent we have given a guarantee.
- For slight negligence we are liable only for the breach of an essential contractual obligation — an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely. In that case liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract.
- For loss of data, within no. 2, we are liable only up to the effort that would have been required to restore the data with regular and proper backups as described in section 7.
- Any further liability is excluded. Nos. 1 to 3 also apply to the liability of our legal representatives and agents, and to all claims regardless of their legal basis.
- We accept no liability for the content, availability or accuracy of the third-party services named in section 5; they are not part of our performance.
10. Third-party software
Truffle contains components under free licences, including TagLib (Mozilla Public License 1.1, individual files LGPL 2.1) and utfcpp (Boost Software License). The complete notices and licence texts are in the program’s “About Truffle” window. The licence terms of these components apply alongside this agreement.
Offer under LGPL 2.1, section 6. You may modify the parts of TagLib that are under the GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1 and relink Truffle with the modified library; reverse engineering for debugging such modifications is permitted to that extent. To make this possible, on request to the address in the legal notice we will provide, for three years from your purchase, the object files of Truffle needed for relinking together with relinking instructions — free of charge as a download, or on a data carrier at cost. An e-mail to mail@truffle-app.com is enough.
11. Term and termination
The licence is perpetual. You may stop using it at any time by deleting Truffle.
If a purchase is refunded by Apple — for instance after a withdrawal — the licence ends; Truffle returns to the demo version.
In the event of a material breach of this agreement — in particular circumventing the purchase check — we may terminate the licence, and in the case of a curable breach only after a warning with a reasonable deadline. On termination the right of use ends; your data, backups and history remain on your Mac and can still be read and reverted with the demo version.
12. Final provisions
The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another state, the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of that state remain unaffected (Art. 6 (2) of Regulation (EC) No 593/2008).
If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, or if you are a business without a general place of jurisdiction in Germany, the exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from this agreement is our registered seat. For consumers the statutory places of jurisdiction apply.
The contract language is German. The English version of this agreement serves understanding; in case of discrepancies the German version prevails.
This agreement is shown to you in the Mac App Store and is published, word for word, at truffle-app.com/lizenz.en. Should the two texts ever differ, the version on file in the Mac App Store at the time of your purchase applies.
Changes to this agreement apply only to licences purchased after the change. Your licence is governed by the version published at the time of your purchase.
We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. A right of withdrawal for the purchase exists as set out in the seller’s withdrawal instructions.
Force majeure. Events beyond our reasonable control — natural events, war, orders by public authorities, large-scale disruption of the internet, or the failure of a supplier we cannot replace — release us, for as long as they last, from the obligations affected. Your statutory rights are unaffected; if the disruption lasts longer than six weeks, either side may terminate the affected part of the contract. This does not touch your activation: it rests on your purchase in the Mac App Store and on no service of ours (section 4).
Should any provision of this agreement be invalid, the remainder stays in force; the statutory provision replaces the invalid one.
13. Additional terms for the Mac App Store
Because you obtain Truffle through the Mac App Store, the following points, which Apple requires in licence agreements for apps from the App Store, apply in addition:
- Parties. This licence agreement is concluded between you and us only, not with Apple. We — not Apple — are responsible for Truffle and its content.
- Scope of licence. The licence is non-transferable and covers the use of Truffle on Apple devices that you own or control, within the usage rules set out in Apple’s Media Services Terms.
- Maintenance and support. We alone are responsible for maintenance and support (sections 6 and 14); Apple has no obligation to provide any.
- Warranty. If Truffle fails to conform to the warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price to you. Beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation; all other warranty claims are governed by section 8 and directed at us.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Truffle — for instance product liability, failure to conform to legal requirements, or consumer protection.
- Intellectual property. If Truffle infringes a third party’s intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of the claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that has been designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-party terms. When using Truffle you comply with the terms of the services it queries (section 5).
- Developer name and address. Questions, complaints or claims about Truffle go to Marian Moritz Hildebrand, Scheinerstr. 29, 81679 Munich, Germany, mail@truffle-app.com (also section 14).
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement; upon your acceptance, Apple has the right to enforce it against you as a third-party beneficiary.
